What makes this French confection so popular? Macarons became a fast trend a couple of years ago and are popping up all over the world. Perhaps one major component, besides being deliciously sweet and cute, is due to its versatility. Macarons come in all shapes and sizes and in all different kinds of flavors. There are popular, basic flavors such as: vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut and strawberry. Then, are the more specialized and unique flavors not available in other cookies such as: rose, lavender, mixed berry, grapefruit, passion fruit, lychee, pistachio, matcha and the list goes on!
Here are some of my favorite variations from different social media bakers:
(Studio Ghibli inspired macarons by Honey & Butter)
The Instagram account of the bakery Honey & Butter in California is just macaron heaven. They are one of the top creatives when it comes to making macarons. Although I haven’t had the pleasure of tasting these cute creations myself, I’m sure they taste just as good as they look. They make a variety of geeky and nerdy inspired macarons and also other more simple yet still beautiful designs.
(Cactus macarons by Bisous Bisous)
The Bisous Bisous Patisserie in Texas has macarons that aren’t as detailed as Honey & Butter but, they still look appetizing and do have some local themes (such as the cactus-shaped ones above and others with popular local flavors like Banana Split).
(Macaron-strawberry cake by Monique KDH. Yes, please!)
Monique KDH is a bakery in South Korea that also gets creative with their use of macaron cookies. Like the picture shown above, Monique KDH adds lots of variations to their macarons and creates cakes, cookie pops, and also has various character designs.
(Matcha macarons from Hidden Sweet Treats)
Foodblogger Sarah from Switzerland takes beautiful photographs of her baked goods. The combination of photography and food makes her account a must-follow.
I hope you enjoyed this small curated list of some of my favorite food/bakery accounts on Instagram.
